AutoSub Meeting Minutes 7/18/2012

In attendance: Pete Z, Dream, Tristram, Rich (ScotchCocker), Struggles, Gowgey, Mindy, Dewb, Jem, David Levy, Doug, David Shih, Sharon Kubo, Miss StrangePony, Damon, Nick Lauder, Rhonda, Lauren, Classic Seth, Erika Musicmaker, Andrea, Leeland, Jesse, Amanda, Ray, Remote: Xuth

-Membership Update Approx 24 at the meeting, also about how many have paid - though not all the same people. Paid members not in attendance: Max Eskin, Jon McD, Kurtis, Lance, TJ, Deanna

(Pete email Brian updated list of paid members)

What is projected membership? 35-40

-Placement/Camp Layout Officially placed at 2:30 and Esplanade On the 3:00 side! YAY! Means more of a buffer from the Root Society (sound camp.at 2:00)

Hive has the end cap for the 2:30 street, 150 ft of frontage Esp, 400 on 2:30, and 150 on A = total 700 ft. Roughly 2x of what we created by having a wedge last year. Less room for campers, lots of extra frontage.

Several Hive camps don’t have a lot of big art to cover the frontage. Hooch has been creating potential maps of the layout.

Going to create some issues, 2:30 is a high traffic area, about half an hour from the end of the camping area where the big sound camps are - 10th anniversary party at Root Society.

3:30 is going to be Disorient who will have 4 big sound vehicles, not a large sound camp.

You may note something about the containers; they are not all next to AutoSub! We are going to take one and empty it - turn it into art! At the other end, there is a group of other Hive members talking about turning the other containers into a playground.

- Opposite of last year’s arrangement which was condensed - running power is going to be a PITA. Might also pool resources of evap ponds, etc.

- idea: create alleys with in the Hive to help navigation.

Trucks arriving Wednesday pre-event. Need someone (not necessarily AutoSub) to meet the truck.

In addition to being louder than usual, it will also be more heavily trafficked. ~ our events could be better attended ~ our “things” will experience higher traffic

  • could mean they are either boning us or they believe in us. Likely the latter.

We have to be on our A game! Events start on time, sounds should not cut out, need signs that light up.

Dewb ~ need to not have our living room on the esplanade.

   Options:

A: put quanset behind the dome, keep all orifices sealed slide comes off the other side from the hatch shell. Question: do we use the truck to block the end of the kitchen?

B: create a dead zone of bikes and peeing -

C: use hexiyurts to create a barrier

  • Dewb will send an email with these diagrams, start a working group

Sharon: how to deal with perimeter?

-HIVE Details

will have power, some people have opted to purchase a porta potty.
thing about having a porta potty in the camp: they fucking stink, it will always be occupied when you need it, there is no guarantee of emptying happens by bribery and has to be accessible. Had this conversation several meetings ago AutoSub voted NO.
every camp except us is pooling to get water delivery - AutoSub opted out because we are (probably) getting our water for free and have. Water costs $1.50/gallon ($1200)

-Project Group Update/ Work plan (project leads have dates for your builds ready to announce!) Dome raising = Levy did an awesome job of cutting and shaping dome bits, did a test build looks great, dome achieves it’s inward curve. But it works!

Slide - (Doug) design is going along with details, have 8 barrels now, going to suspend it in 2 ways, seatbelt webbing with an A frame support. Webbing otw, Sunday WW to cut steal, barrels are cut in half. Will be 40 ft long!

  • Work day Sunday - Jon McD said need one more person (Sharon)

If seat belt stuff comes in will sew Saturday

Ladder = one third built, needed a new ladder that goes through the hoop skirt. 20 ft ladder (need to paint it white - Jenn)

Concern about the net - Tristram may want to buy a replacement section.

if we want to inspect it is in Rich’s garage -

Hoop skirt - cutting/sewing day Saturday - need 6 people

       Nick, Doug, Dan, Andrea, David

   - If you are packing, unwrap it before you pack it!
